Die Lego-Figur Emmet ist ganz normal und sticht eigentlich durch nichts hervor. Zufälligerweise wird er auf einmal als Held gesehen, der als einziger die Lego-Welt retten kann. Zusammen mit einer Gruppe auserwählter Superhelden macht er sich auf den Weg, um einen Bösewicht kalt zu stellen. Da Emmet von solchen Taten keine Ahnung hat, ist er erstmal sichtlich überfordert mit der neuen Situation...
